Mango Bay, the latest novel in the Mango Bob series by Bill Myers. Laugh out loud funny, filled with zany characters living life in a sleepy beach town on Florida’s west coast. Take an unemployed computer hacker living in an RV on the beach, add in a cranky cat named Mango Bob, Oscar the wiener dog, a pot smuggling granny, and a aging Hollywood movie star out to reclaim lost glory. Put them all together in a clothing optional trailer park with a larcenous park manager, and what do you get? Mango Bay!
Mango Bay A Mango Bob Adventure Bill Myers Books
I gave it five stars because I did, after all, read the entire series over the course of a couple days. That must mean something. Bill's work is...well, I only paid $2.99 each for the Amazon Kindle version and that means all six books cost about the same as a couple bottles of wine. Well worth the price for some easy beach reading and I drank the wine, too. Now THAT'S entertainment.Look, nobody gets hurt (much) in these books. The protagonist, Walker, has the usual special-ops bad-ass back story but he goes to great lengths not to hurt anybody, including the various thugs that invariably come after him. He has a steady string of beautiful and independent women more or less throw themselves at him but there are no awkward or hide-your-eyes sex scenes. Only one person gets murdered (as near as I can remember) in the whole series and that one is a bad guy and it happens off-stage.
Which is refreshing compared to the usual serial killer heroes.
Now listen, as literature goes this series gets less than a star. There is a bit of static in continuity from book to book, and the quotation marks are all over the place. Sometimes it is not clear who is speaking. The plots are...well, over the course of six books this guy Walker is continually stumbling into huge sums of money. Unlikely severance pay amounts, corporate bribes, then a free RV, which incidentally has half a million in gold hidden inside, later he buys his first ever lottery ticket and it wins, then on a fling he goes off to the Treasure Coast for some incongruous beach combing and on the first day finds highly valuable Spanish Treasure.
Like I said, harmless fun for a book to carry along to the beach or otherwise killing time in a waiting room. I don't mean to back stab the author and don't forget, I gave the series five stars and read it all in a 48 hour stretch. Now I am reading the Leatherstocking Tales by James Fenimore Cooper. Quite a switch and for a REALLY scathing (and hilarious) review google up what Mark Twain had to say about THAT series.
Finally, there are plenty of details about life in a motor home. Not surprising since the author spends half his time in a motor home and has written a couple instructional books on the subject. And let us not forget the cat. There is a cat. An American Bobtail named Mango Bob. Bob never does much but somehow, by the end of each installment, he shines out as my favorite character.
So there ya go.

Mango Bay A Mango Bob Adventure Bill Myers Books Reviews
I finish my latest Mango Bob & Walker adventure, and then...... can't hardly WAIT for the next installment. Such a pleasure to read the whimsical adventuresome stories of these two and their NEW Friends, and enemies who are ALWAYS thwarted in non-bloody, non-violence ways. I would think too there is a place in YA section of the "e-Library" for this series. It also transports you to the actual LOCAL towns. As I live in Florida, and have on BOTH coasts, I am intimately familiar with the areas described in the books. If this is your FIRST trip into Mango-Bob-Land..... get the others as well. You can't go wrong !!!! I would also ask - Mr Myers; have you thought about -pitching- these to Hallmark Channel, or ABCFamily to have some Movies made ???!!!! That would be so WICKED !!!!!
In the early books of this series I kept waiting for Walker to grow a pair. He came close in Mango Glades but then it slipped away from him in Key. There were many slow parts and needless detail and repetitions. The overall theme was that the meek get really lucky as long as they let women walk all over them. Right.
This is another outstanding adventure for Walker and Mango Bob. Like the previous two novels, this one keeps you turning pages and not wanting to stop reading. And when you get to the end, you want it to continue.
The character development is excellent, the scenes are painted so well you feel like you are there, and the plot is captivating.
Sign me up for Book Four!
This is the third in the Mango Bob series. The good news is it is a stand alone novel, so it is recommended, but not necessary, that the first two be read first, as the author backfills nicely, letting new readers get a feel for the hero.
The book is a fast and easy read. It has a nice comic touch, a little romance, some pets anyone would love and believable characters. What else do you need when you want a really good read that is more an appetizer than a heavy meal. Do not get me wrong, the Mango books are really fun reads and the plots are believable.
Read these books. They are fun!
The third adventure in the Mango Bob series. Still enjoyable light reading but definitely the slowest. Nothing much happens for the first half except catching up from the first two adventures, introducing some new characters and solving relationship problems. Walker has moved to a trailer park, Anna from Mango Lucky set him up with. Anna has lost interest in him as a potential love interest. He does have the assignment of figuring out why Serenity Cove, the trailer park is losing money. Enter denizens Polly, her daughter Lucy and former actor Buck. And some shady characters. Some amateur sleuthing has Walker, Polly and Buck solving the mystery with little help from Homeland Security despite their recruitment. Another fun adventure. But too much time is spent with placating lady friends who seem to get their feelings hurt at the slightest misunderstanding. Plus minutiae of mundane errands and taking care of Mango Bob. Mrrph was getting irritating. Now Walker has a houseboat along with his RV which suggests adventures by land or sea. Even though I was a bit disappointed with this installment, I guess I'll tag along should the adventures continue.
I am really enjoying the Mango Bob series. This is the third in the series following Walker and his sidekick cat Mango Bob around Florida. This book sees Walker ending up in a resort mobile home park. He runs into a former movie star who you will undoubtedly recognize and makes new friend. This whole series is really enjoyable. They are easy reads and are perfect for entertainment reading. Adventure awaits.
